About this course
This course covers the ethical and professional standards that apply to nursing and midwifery practice in the United Arab Emirates. It explains Federal Law No. (6) of 2023 and its 2025 Executive Regulations (Cabinet Resolution No. (176) of 2025), the medical liability law as it applies to nurses and midwives, and the codes and standards of MOHAP, the Dubai Health Authority and the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi. Lessons cover consent and capacity, scope of practice and delegation, medication administration and controlled medicines, advocacy and speaking up, safeguarding, midwifery-specific law, professional boundaries, confidentiality and digital conduct, documentation, and what happens when a concern is raised.
It is written for registered nurses, midwives, assistant and practical nurses and nurse specialists working in government and private hospitals, clinics, home care and primary care centres across all seven emirates. It suits nurses new to the UAE who need to understand local rules quickly, experienced nurses and midwives refreshing their knowledge after the 2023–2026 legal changes, nurse leaders and preceptors, and professionals who want structured learning and reflection after a complaint or incident.
The UAE nursing workforce is drawn from many countries and works under federal and emirate rules that differ in important details, such as the order of substitute consent, opposite-gender examination requirements and grievance deadlines. Ethical lapses in consent, medication safety, records or boundaries can quickly become medical liability or disciplinary matters with penalties up to licence revocation. This course uses realistic UAE cases from Dubai to Fujairah to show how to act lawfully, honestly and compassionately, and how to demonstrate insight if things go wrong.

Questions about this course
Is the nursing ethics course suitable for midwives and assistant nurses?
Yes. Module 7 is dedicated to midwifery ethics in the UAE, including reproductive-health consent, birth control, assisted reproduction and permitted termination of pregnancy. Module 4 covers scope, delegation and supervision, which matters for assistant and practical nurses as much as for registered nurses and nurse specialists.
Does the course explain Federal Law No. 6 of 2023 for nurses?
It applies the duties in Article 8 and the prohibitions in Article 12 of Federal Law No. 6 of 2023, with the licence, renewal and penalty rules in Cabinet Resolution No. 176 of 2025. It also explains how the federal Medical Liability law extends to nurses and midwives, so you can see which rules apply to you whichever authority issued your licence.
Does the nursing course cover medication errors and controlled medicines?
Module 5 covers administering and storing medicines, including controlled medicines, in line with Federal Decree-Law No. 30 of 2021 and the DOH and DHA rules, and reporting medication errors within the timeframes your authority sets. It treats error reporting as a professional duty and explains why honest, prompt reporting protects patients and you.
What should a nurse do when asked to carry out a task outside their scope?
Module 4 teaches you to check the request against your licensed scope, your facility's authorisation and your own competence, and then to decline or escalate an unsafe request clearly rather than comply quietly. It also covers delegating to others and supervising them responsibly. It treats speaking up about an unsafe request as part of your duty to the patient, not as disloyalty to the team.
How should a nurse record this course in a CPD portfolio?
Keep the certificate, which states approximately 3 learning hours of self-directed learning and your score, together with your reflective account. The course is not accredited by any UAE health authority and carries no CME or CPD credit, so check your own authority's rules on whether self-directed activity can be logged for renewal.
