About this course

This course covers the ethical and professional standards that apply to allied health professionals in the United Arab Emirates. It explains Federal Law No. (6) of 2023 and its Executive Regulations (Cabinet Resolution No. (176) of 2025), the federal medical liability law, the Unified Healthcare Professional Qualification Requirements (PQR), and the codes and standards of MOHAP, DHA, DOH and SHA. Through UAE case studies it works through scope of practice, delegation, consent, communication, boundaries in hands-on therapies, chaperones, confidentiality, records, social media, probity, incident reporting, safeguarding, complaints and remediation.

It is written for physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, radiographers, sonographers, radiation therapists, laboratory scientists and technologists, dietitians, respiratory therapists, optometrists, audiologists, podiatrists, prosthetists and orthotists, psychologists, dialysis and cardiovascular technologists, healthcare assistants and technicians, TCIM practitioners and other licensed allied professionals in government and private facilities across all seven emirates. It suits newly licensed professionals, experienced staff updating their knowledge and those preparing a reflective account after a concern.

Allied professionals are now regulated by a dedicated federal law, Dubai's Executive Council Resolution No. (49) of 2024 has introduced a new regime of violations and penalties, DHA's Code of Ethics standards took effect in September 2025, and DOH's consent standard took effect in February 2025. Many complaints about allied staff arise from scope drift, assumed consent, boundary crossings and poor records rather than technical failure. This course helps you recognise those risks early and practise in a way you can explain to patients, managers and committees.

Questions about this course

Which allied health professions is the allied health ethics course written for?

Physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, radiographers, laboratory scientists, dietitians, respiratory therapists, optometrists, healthcare assistants, technicians and TCIM practitioners. The cases range from hospital departments to home visits and telehealth, so that each profession sees its own risks rather than a doctor's or nurse's version of them.

How does the course help me decide whether a task is within my scope?

Module 3 gives you a four-part test: your licence, the law, your facility's authorisation and your personal competence. It uses the PQR categories and Federal Law No. 6 of 2023 to show where common requests fall, and it covers delegating safely to assistants, technicians and students with the right consent and supervision.

Does it cover touch, chaperones and boundaries in hands-on therapy?

Module 5 applies the third-party and consent rule for examining a patient of a different gender to physiotherapy and other hands-on therapies, and covers consent before touch, privacy and documenting who was present. It also covers maintaining professional boundaries when treatment is hands-on and continues over many sessions.

How is this course different from the general healthcare ethics course?

This course applies law and standards to allied practice: scope under the PQR, Federal Law No. 6 of 2023, consent for hands-on care, records and claims. The Healthcare Ethics Course for UAE Healthcare Professionals is a shorter cross-profession course on principles, reasoning and dilemmas such as end-of-life care and organ donation.

Will my licensing authority recognise the allied health ethics certificate?

No UAE health authority has accredited the course, and it carries no CME or CPD credit. The certificate states approximately 3 learning hours of self-directed learning and your score, and your own authority's CPD rules decide whether that kind of activity can be recorded for licence renewal.
