What you will learn
Explain insight as a professional capability with factual, causal and relational layers, and distinguish it from remorse, apology and over-admission.
Identify the question each UAE decision-maker is deciding (Medical Liability Committee, Supreme Committee, Medical Practices Committee and other disciplinary bodies, licensing authorities) and where insight is relevant to each.
Describe the remedial and return-to-practice provisions that presuppose insight, including Dubai Executive Council Resolution No. 49 of 2024, Art. 19(c), Cabinet Resolution No. 67 of 2020 and Cabinet Resolution No. 176 of 2025.
Acknowledge facts and learning honestly without applying legal labels reserved for committees under Federal Decree-Law No. 4 of 2016 and Cabinet Resolution No. 40 of 2019.
Recognise thinking traps, emotional and hierarchical barriers, and defensive language patterns in your own responses.
Apply the five-step insight workup (reconstruct, compare, explain, understand impact, change) to a real or case-based concern.
Use multi-source feedback, mentoring or supervision, and learning matched to causes to deepen and evidence insight.
Write a consistent written trail and a six-part reflective statement suitable for a committee or licensing authority.
Answer difficult questions at an interview, committee session or reassessment briefly, accurately and with composure.
Adapt insight and evidence to clinical, communication, documentation, probity, behaviour and health-related concerns.

About this course
This course teaches you how to develop and demonstrate insight when you are facing a complaint, investigation or disciplinary process in the UAE. It explains what insight is (and what it is not), where it matters on the medical liability and disciplinary tracks, the thinking traps and emotional barriers that block it, and a practical five-step 'insight workup' for analysing your own practice. It then shows how to demonstrate insight in written responses, reflective statements, committee sessions, interviews and reassessments, and how insight differs for clinical, communication, probity, behaviour and health-related concerns.
It is designed for physicians, dentists, nurses, midwives, pharmacists and allied health professionals licensed by MOHAP, DHA, DOH, SHA or DHCR, in government and private facilities, who are currently responding to a concern or want to be prepared. It is also useful for supervisors, mentors and managers who support colleagues through a complaint.
UAE law gives committees and licensing authorities wide discretion: penalties range from a written notice to licence revocation, and Dubai's Medical Practices Committee can require training, supervised practice and reassessment. Every one of those decisions involves judging the risk of recurrence. Through realistic cases from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Al Ain, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain, the course helps you build the honest, specific and evidenced insight that decision-makers look for, without over-admitting, and without any promise of a particular outcome.

Questions about this course
What does insight mean when a complaint has been made against me?
Insight is a professional capability with factual, causal and relational layers: understanding what happened, why it happened and how it affected others. Module 1 separates it from remorse, apology and over-admission, and module 2 explains where each UAE decision-maker, from a Medical Liability Committee to a licensing authority, looks for it.
Does showing insight mean admitting a medical error?
No. Module 4 shows how to acknowledge facts and learning honestly without applying legal labels, such as medical error or gross medical error, that only committees can decide under Federal Decree-Law No. 4 of 2016. Because wording matters, take advice from your insurer or a lawyer before submitting anything in writing.
What is the five-step insight workup?
Reconstruct what happened, compare it with the expected standard, explain the causes, understand the impact on the patient and others, and change your practice. Module 4 applies the five steps to a real or case-based concern, and module 5 adds feedback, mentoring and learning matched to the causes.
How should I talk about insight at an interview or committee session?
Module 7 prepares you to answer difficult questions briefly, accurately and with composure, without defensiveness or over-admission. Module 6 covers keeping a consistent written trail and a six-part reflective statement, so that what you say in person matches what you have already written.
Should I take the insight course or the reflective practice course first?
If you are facing a concern now, start with insight, then use the Reflective Practice Course for writing skills and CPD entries. Both are independent and not accredited by any UAE health authority; neither carries CME or CPD credit or replaces training a committee has ordered unless it accepts it.
