About this course
This course explains what patient dignity, respect and non-discrimination require of healthcare professionals in the UAE. It covers the non-discrimination duties in Federal Decree-Law No. (4) of 2016 on Medical Liability and Cabinet Resolution No. (40) of 2019, Federal Decree-Law No. (34) of 2023 on combating discrimination and hatred, the national Patient's Rights and Responsibilities Charter (Ministerial Resolution No. (14) of 2021), the DHA Code of Ethics ST-66 (2025) and the Abu Dhabi patient rights policy. It then turns those rules into daily practice: privacy and modesty, religious and cultural respect, language access and interpreters, People of Determination, older patients, stigmatised conditions, employers and sponsors, and fair treatment of colleagues.
Every licensed clinician in the UAE can benefit, from doctors, dentists, nurses and midwives to pharmacists and allied health staff, whichever authority issued the licence (MOHAP, DHA, DOH, SHA or Dubai Healthcare City) and whether they work in public or private care. It is particularly useful for professionals who are new to the UAE, who supervise diverse teams, or who wish to strengthen their practice after a complaint or concern about attitude, communication or fairness.
The UAE health system brings together patients and professionals from a very wide range of nationalities, languages, faiths and income levels. That makes dignity and fairness central to safe care: patients who feel judged or misunderstood disclose less, consent without understanding and disengage from treatment. Through UAE case studies set in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Al Ain, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, comparison tables and practical scripts, the course helps you recognise bias, adjust care fairly, document it well and respond with insight if a concern is raised.

Questions about this course
Which UAE laws protect patients from discrimination in healthcare?
The course starts with the non-discrimination duties in Articles 3 and 37 of Federal Decree-Law No. 4 of 2016 and Article 2 of Cabinet Resolution No. 40 of 2019, then explains Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2023 and where its reach in clinical care is limited. It adds the dignity and respect rights in the national Patient's Rights and Responsibilities Charter.
How should I respond to a discriminatory request from a patient or family?
Module 7 separates legitimate preferences, such as a request for a same-gender clinician, from requests based on nationality, race or religion. It shows how to respond fairly and calmly, protect the colleague concerned and record what happened, and how to use protected speaking-up routes when discrimination comes from inside the team.
Does the dignity course cover People of Determination and older patients?
Module 6 covers reasonable adjustments for People of Determination and older patients, presuming capacity in adults and speaking to the patient rather than the companion. It also covers stigmatised conditions, and the extra protection UAE standards give to sensitive information about them.
How does the course approach privacy and modesty during care?
Module 4 covers physical and informational privacy, including for patients who cannot speak for themselves, covering the body and closing curtains during care, and the rules on opposite-gender examination. Module 5 adds working with professional interpreters and meeting the DHA and DOH requirements for interpreters on consent forms.
Does this course satisfy an employer's equality and diversity training requirement?
That is your employer's decision. The course is independent, is not accredited by any UAE health authority and carries no CME or CPD credit. Its certificate states approximately 2 learning hours and your score, which many employers accept as evidence of learning, but check before you rely on it.
