About this course

This course explains the rules that govern health content online in the United Arab Emirates, from the federal media law and its 2024 Executive Regulation to MOHAP health advertisement licensing, the UAE Media Council Advertiser Permit, the DHA Standards for Medical Advertisement Content on Social Media, the Abu Dhabi Healthcare Guidelines for Health Media & Advertising and the DHCR Advertisement Policy. It covers banned claims, before-and-after images, prices and offers, patient consent for images and testimonials, confidentiality on social media and messaging apps, individualised advice, online reviews, sponsorship and conflicts of interest, and what happens when a concern is raised.

It is written for licensed healthcare professionals in the UAE, including doctors, dentists, nurses, midwives, pharmacists and allied health professionals licensed by MOHAP, DHA, DOH, SHA or DHCR, and for Medical Directors, clinic owners and managers who approve or oversee social media content. It is particularly relevant to those in aesthetic medicine, dentistry, dermatology, fertility, physiotherapy and pharmacy, where online promotion is common, and to anyone responding to a complaint or regulatory concern about online conduct.

Health advertising and online conduct are now actively monitored in the UAE. A single post can attract MOHAP advertising fines, media-law penalties and disciplinary action by your licensing authority at the same time, and the rules have changed significantly since 2023. Through realistic cases set in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Al Ain, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, this course helps you build habits that protect patients, your facility and your licence.

Questions about this course

Does a clinician's Instagram post count as a health advertisement?

It can. Module 2 explains when online content counts as a health advertisement and which approval route applies through MOHAP, DHA, DOH or DHCR. General education usually differs from promoting a service, a price or a result, and the course shows how to tell the difference before you post rather than after a complaint.

Is the UAE Media Council Advertiser Permit the same as health authority approval?

No. The Advertiser Permit under UAE media rules concerns who may advertise, while health authority approval concerns the content of a health advertisement. Module 2 explains both and why an influencer or clinician may need to think about each separately before publishing promotional content.

Can I post before-and-after photos or patient testimonials?

Only within strict rules. Module 4 applies the DHA requirements for before-and-after images and filming procedures, and module 5 shows how to design a written consent process for patient images, testimonials and stories, including for children. Confidentiality law still applies even when a patient is happy to be shown.

Which words and claims should clinicians avoid in health adverts?

DHA ST-21 lists words that may not be used, such as no side effects, 100%, absolutely certain, famous, pioneer and immediate results. Module 4 has you rewrite non-compliant claims to remove banned words, unsubstantiated statements, disparagement of competitors and time-limited inducements, using realistic examples.

Is the social media course suitable for clinic managers who are not clinicians?

Yes. Medical directors, owners and managers who approve content are part of the intended audience. The course is independent and not accredited by any UAE health authority, carries no CME or CPD credit, and does not replace the advertising approval or permit your content may need.
